The Demolition of the Shower Towers and the construction of dorms on Tuck Mall and Maynard are new priorities, according to an article in The Dartmouth.

The Trustees have named the near-future dormitories north of Maynard the David T. McLaughlin Cluster for the late President McLaughlin, who died August 25, according to a news release.

The Trustees have budgeted for a late-2004 construction project (Maynard Street dormitories) and construction during 2005 (Kemeny Hall/ Haldeman Center and Gym fitness center expansion).

The Trustees also have budgeted for the 2005 planning of the dining hall north of Maynard, a new dormitory on Tuck Mall, new biology buildings and the Hop expansion.

Dartmouth has a new website for Kemeny Hall that includes an elevated drawing of the south facade of the building — as well as the adjoining Academic Centers building.

The Dartmouth reports zoning approval for the new dorm north of Maynard Street.

The Downturn has slowed construction, but according to an update from Provost Scherr, but the College still is pursuing projects including the Academic Centers north of Carson Hall on North Main; Kemeny Hall on North Main, which requires moving Phi Tau; an addition to Sudikoff Hall; an addition to the south of Cummings Hall atop the existing road; and an addition to the Child Care center.

The school’s new strategic plan includes several building projects, The Dartmouth reports.   Among them are a parking garage by Cummings (Summer 2003), the Maynard Street Dorm, and a dining hall nearby to seat 500-600.

Trustees are moving ahead on planning, The Dartmouth reports.:

• Construction on the Maynard Street dormitory is set to begin in less than eight months.
• Designs for Kemeny Hall have been presented, construction to begin fall 2003.
• Bradley and Gerry will be demolished.
• Phi Tau will be moved west (toward Main Street).
• A new parking garage at the Thayer School was approved.

The Trustees heard an update of Moore Ruble Yudell‘s plans for the 500-bed Maynard Street dorm, The Dartmouth reports.

Two new dorms and dining hall outlined in the master plan have the planning go-ahead according to a Dartmouth press release.
