The Rauner Library Blog writes that freshmen were required to wear a distinctive cap or “beanie” between 1911 and 1969. The rich source of the 1947 film made available by Dartmouth shows freshmen carrying furniture for upperclassmen and wearing beanies at the 8:15 mark.
